  • School for Parents
The mission of our school includes goals for our parents. The P.S. 9 School For Parents is a comprehensive Parent Education program that emerged in the Fall of 1987. The P.S. 9 philosophy has always been that parents are the primary educators of their children. In order to encourage active parental involvement and a partnership between home and school, P.S. 9 has developed a series of thematic workshops focused on developing the social, emotional, and intellectual functioning of the child. >br> We culminate our experiences together with a Parent Luncheon and End of the Year Excursion. The School for Parents also sponsors the P.S. 9 School Volunteer Program. We have recruited a large number of parents who work directly in the classroom or tutor a child on a one:to:one basis. Parents with clerical experience help in the main office or school library. Many of our parents have utilized the experience to help obtain full-time employment. The P.S. 9 School Volunteer program has been so successful, that is was recognized by CBS Television and aired on the CBS "Sunday Morning" Program.
